Bundaberg council worker dies while on the job

UPDATE 3PM: Bundaberg Mayor Jack Dempsey has offered his condolences to the family of a Bundaberg Regional Council employee who died while working today.

"This afternoon, the Bundaberg Regional Council was devastated to learn of the loss of one of its valued employees," Cr Dempsey said.

 "On behalf of Council, I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the gentleman's family, friends and colleagues.

"We can confirm that our friend and employee lost his life today while undertaking his work as a collection services plant operator in Maroondan."

Police investigations are continuing.

A man, believed to be in his 40s, ran off the road near Maroondan. He was driving a garbage truck which crashed through a fence and a line of trees this afternoon.

He was found unresponsive in the truck and pronounced dead by QAS paramedics.

Bundaberg Senior Constable David Shooks confirmed police responded to the single-vehicle crash to find one male unresponsive.

"Queensland Ambulance Service arrived and confirmed that the male was deceased," he said.

"Investigations are still ongoing into how this has occurred.

"At this stage we've got a council truck stopped next to a tree.

"From initial investigations it looks like he's come heading towards Bundaberg-Gin Gin Rd and he's made a big arc to where the truck has stopped."

Snr Const Shooks said there was nothing to suggest the matter involved foul play.

EARLIER: A TRUCK has run through a line of trees and a fence at a private property near Gin Gin.  

Emergency services were called to the property on Mellvilles Rd, Maroondan just after 1pm.

Police and two ambulance crews are on the scene.
