Crime statistics website on police radar
THE Queensland Police Service is poised to unveil a new website with up to date crime statistics.
Police Commissioner Ian Stewart, speaking at the Imbil Rural Watch meeting in Kandanga on Monday night, said the new site was just months away and would enable the public to look up crime statistics of their communities.
He said the website would allow users to search for statistics on a regional and district basis and would even be broken down into Neighbourhood Watch areas.
He said the move was just one of the ways Queensland Police was using technology to improve policing and keep the community informed.
The Commissioner predicted in the near future every police officer would have smart phones or tablets hooked up to police computers.
Another option the service was looking at was allowing the public to report offences via smart phones.
He said the idea was a way to make reporting crime easier.
Residents who make a complaint via the smartphone will be issued with a complaint number and police would investigate the claims.
