Crowds rush to meet Tony Abbott at the Brisbane Ekka

ON A quiet day at the Brisbane Ekka, mayhem followed Opposition Leader Tony Abbott with his enormous press pack chasing him around the state's largest annual show.

Mr Abbott with his two daughters managed to find time for a few "selfies" with his young and not-so-young fan, even pausing for a dessert from the famed strawberries and cream stand.

Crowds rushed to meet the would-be Prime Minister, asking to shake hands or introduce him to their children for a classic photo opportunity.

After hopping off his bus after 1pm, he was cheered by a waiting contingent for the LNP who formed a guard of honour for his brief visit, disappearing once he hopped into a government car at the other end of the RNA Showgrounds.
