Cyclone Debbie: Make your insurance claims now, not later

INSURANCE companies are bracing themselves for an inundation of phone calls as those affected by Cyclone Debbie come to see just how badly they have been impacted.

Archers the Strata Professionals have been in constant contact with Marsh Advantage Insurance, who manage the majority of their clients' insurance policies in the Whitsunday region.

Over the course of the day, Marsh Advantage Insurance will be attempting to contact all of their clients in a bid to determine damage sustained and to assist in coordinating repairs.

As for Suncorp customers, the company is urging those affected by Debbie to lodge their claims as soon as possible.

The Suncorp Customer Response Team is on standby to help residents as soon as they are able to access the affected areas.

With an increased number of calls expected, they are also increasing their call centre capacity.

"We have started receiving claims from the affected region. People don't need to be at home or have a copy of their policy to lodge their claims," Suncorp spokesperson Josh Cooney said.

"The sooner you contact us the sooner we can start the claim process to ensure the quickest possible path to recovery. If you need emergency make-safe work completed, we can arrange it for you."

RACQ is also urging residents to lodge their claim as soon as possible.

RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said the Club was ready with additional resources to assist with increased call numbers.

"We have extra staff on the phones to help lodge claims and answer enquiries. However, the fastest way to notify us of a claim is via our website," she said.
