Dan Murphy's for Maryborough
MARYBOROUGH is on the move.
A ground-breaking $4.4 million beautification of the city centre is nearing its November finale.
A new-look, rebadged Maryborough Central Plaza has emerged after an overdue overhaul.
News that the Bunnings franchise is expected to open its doors off Ferry Street is another boost to the city's retail sector.
Now comes an added boon to the Maryborough economy in the form of bottle shop giant Dan Murphy's.
The Fraser Coast Regional Council has confirmed a planning application to develop a Dan Murphy's store at the Old Sydney Hotel, on the corner of Ellena and Richmond streets, has been approved.
The development application from ALH Group and Place Design Group was given the green light at the end of June, along with a list of conditions.
The 1240-square-metre development is not expected to start until next year.
The plans for the new bottle shop, which includes a 730-square-metre liquor barn, have been prepared by Brisbane-based Darren Dickfos Architects.
There are 25 Dan Murphy's stores in Queensland, including the Boat Harbour Drive outlet that opened in Hervey Bay about 18 months ago.
Representatives of the Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group and Darren Dickfos Architects were remaining tight-lipped about the plans this week, as was management at the Old Sydney Hotel.
