THE son of Dalrymple MP Shane Knuth has fronted court facing serious child pornography and grooming offences.

Daniel Knuth, 19, faced Charters Towers Magistrate Court this week, charged with possessing child exploitation material, grooming a child under 16 with the intent to have them engage in a sexual act and use carriage service to solicit child exploitation material.

Police will allege Daniel Knuth had a fake social media account, where he posed as a young boy and engaged in a conversation with a 13-year-old girl, allegedly asking her for nude images.

Mr Knuth, of Katter's Australian Party, brought attention to the fact his son had achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism.

"Daniel is my son and will always be my son," Mr Knuth said.

"Nothing in life has ever been easy for Daniel, you would be aware of his disability from birth."

It's understood policing agencies tracked the conversation, which led to a raid of Daniel Knuth's home, where a number of items were seized.

It will be alleged when those items were reviewed by police, they located a number of images that were identified as child exploitation material.

It will be further alleged police identified further information that supported the grooming offences. The next court appearance is in Charters Towers Magistrates Court on November 27.
