The Voice runner-up Darren Percival ready for national tour

COOLUM'S favourite soul-stirring singer Darren Percival is opening the door for fans to take a sneak peek at the ultimate jam session during his new national tour.

The Voice Australia 2012 runner-up is enjoying his much-needed time at home on the Sunshine Cost with his wife Amanda and two children, Cash, 5, and Willow, 2, before the whirlwind album promotion period begins for his third album.

Out May 9, Lovelife encompasses three original songs as well as takes on classic hits by artists such as The Beatles, Norah Jones, Rod Stewart and the Bee Gees.

Lovelife is a walk down memory lane of sorts for Darren, who has collaborated again with his long-time friend Paul Gray to help produce and play all the keys in the album.

"These are all the songs we played together for the past 20 years," Darren said.

"We've been working together since 1994 at weddings and gigs and this is the sort of stuff that people have requested over the years.

"It's a bit of a walk down memory lane for me, and at the end of the day, you want to tour with a record that you love, and I love this record.

"It's really fun."

Darren revealed exclusively to the Daily that he would include a show at The Events Centre, Caloundra, on July 4.

"I always like to start the tours on the Coast, and I've managed to have this show included in the northern stretch of the tour. Can't wait," he said.

Lovelife was an album produced in a just a few short weeks. What started as a collection of originals, turned into a feel-good, funky product with a mix of originals and covers.

"I'm really happy this album has a lot of my favourite songs, and ones that people have never heard before, which have a real New Orleans-groove feel," Darren said.

"So it's cool. It's like my audience is hearing all new original songs anyway.

"I just love being on stage. I can't wait to tour again."

As Darren gears up for his big album release and tour, he is enjoying the quiet time with his family and converting photographs from a family holiday to Bali into abstract landscape paintings.
