David Lewis wins and completes the Fraser Coast council

DAVID Lewis is the final councillor elected with preferences getting him over the line ahead of David Dalgleish in division six.

On Wednesday night the Electoral Commission of Queensland declared Cr Lewis the winner.

"I'm very happy and conscious of the responsibility and the opportunity," a beaming Cr Lewis said.

"I always thought there was a chance- it was such a close race."

Cr Lewis got over the line thanks to the flow of preferences from Geoff Redpath.

The new councillor scored 276 of Mr Redpath's preferences compared to 154 which flowed to Mr Dalgleish.

That gave Cr Lewis a total of 2289 votes ahead of Mr Dalgleish's 2218.

Mr Redpath conceded defeat late on Wednesday night.

"Congratulations goes to David Lewis," he wrote.

"Am I disappointed - you bet; but am I happy that my preferences got this David across the line."

An enrolement bungle in the first week of pre-polling threatened to see division six and eight return to the polls.

About 88 people were enrolled in division six despite living in division eight.

Mr Lewis said a re-election was not likely to be called due to the margin between he and Mr Dalgleish.

With the Fraser Coast Regional Council now complete it is up to Fraser Coast mayor Chris Loft to call the first council meeting.

The Electoral Act requires the first meeting to be called within 14 days of a declared result.
