Dead backpacker here only two days
BACKPACKERS are in shock following the death of a 24-year-old German woman picking tomatoes at a Childers farm.
Bundy Workers and Divers Hostel director John Walker said the woman had not been staying at his hostel but many of his backpackers were upset following her death.
“I understand she was only in Australia for two days,” he said.
Mr Walker said that following the incident he had a meeting with his backpackers to go through sun-safety issues.
“We try to make them aware of how to recognise heat stress and so on,” he said.
He said it was sometimes difficult to make people understand the effects of the heat.
“We have a lot of problems even convincing people to put their food in the fridge,” Mr Walker said.
Police said the coroner was handling the matter and it was not known when autopsy results would be made public.
Police have been unable to release the woman’s name.
