Man in 40s dies at Double Island Point

UPDATE:

NOON:

A  MAN in his 40s was declared dead at Double Island Point this morning after he became short of breath in the water near the southern end of the Double Island Point Lighthouse track some time before 9am.

A by-stander applied CPR before a 4WD ambulance arrived at the scene. Officers declared the man dead about an hour later.

The Rainbow Beach Lifeguards arrived just after ambulance officers, having accessed the area by jet ski after being blocked by the beach track.

RACQ Careflight was also in attendance.

Meanwhile, another man, also in his 40s, was transported from Rainbow Beach to Gympie Hospital on Wednesday afternoon after a fall from a horse.

The man suffered a back injury but was transported in a stable condition, a QAS media spokeswoman said.

That incident occurred about 12.15pm.

LIFESAVING Queensland has confirmed there has been a death at Double Island Point this morning, after a patient was pulled from the water but was unable to be revived.

A South East Queensland Lifeguard supervisor said Rainbow Beach lifeguards attended the scene at 9am, arriving just after Queensland Ambulance officers.

The patient was pronounced dead and is thought to have had a heart attack.

The Rainbow Beach Lifeguards passed Mudlo Rocks successfully to get to the scene, however further up the track was inaccessible, so they reached the point by jet ski.

RACQ Careflight was also in attendance.

More details to follow.
