IT WAS their first game for Ipswich Jets but Josh Damen, Josh Robinson and Nathan Gaulton were arguably their best on field.
The Jets came into their Intrust Super Cup clash against Sunshine Coast Falcons understrength but well-prepared.
Ipswich were up to their 28th player of the season, identical to the number of players they used in last year's ISC and NRL State Championship premierships, and the loss of fullback Marmin Barba threatened to hamper the side even more.
Once they took the field nothing could stop the Jets, who travelled five hours ona bus to play at Hervey Bay's Stafford Park.
Damen finished with two tries in his club debut, as the Jets ran out dominant 20-6 winners in the eighth round clash.
Sunshine Coast Falcons were their own worst enemy, as woeful handling and poor execution prevented the "home" side from mounting any form of pressure.
The Jets defence was near-perfect, with only the 78th minute try to Melbourne Storm-contracted Felise Kaufusi the only blemish.
Ipswich captain Dane Phillips praised the defensive effort of his side, as a slight change in tactics paid dividends.
"It was a bit frustrating to let them in but that's footy," he said.
We're there every week tackling and practicing our thing so as long as we're getting better it's only a good thing.
"We changed the last couple of weeks, just getting the ball and running hard. At the end of the day if you hold the ball the other team gets tired and you can put points on.
"Not much has changed but probably just that little thing within the team to wrap up the ball and do the right thing."
Phillips praised club debutants Damen, Robinson and Gaulton, who he said were the team's best performers.
He credited their inclusion with giving the more established players a boost, as their infectious enthusiasm helped lift the Jets to their third win of the season.
"You bring young blokes in and they're all excited to play and that lifts the other guys so I couldn't fault them at all," Phillips said.
"You never know, by the end of the year we could have some more but those blokes will definitely be there next week.
"They were absolutely outstanding and did everything you could ask for."
