Decision time on location of Maryborough Markets

THE future location of the Maryborough Markets could be decided as soon as today, as the Fraser Coast Regional Council holds their 10th ordinary meeting.

After two businesses in Maryborough's CBD blamed their closures on the relocation of the markets during the Kent and Adelaide St revitalisation works, more than 1000 people have signed a petition to bring the markets back to their original place.

One of the Fraser Coast Councillors who is supporting the market's return to Adelaide St is Division 1 Councillor James Hansen, who will today put forward the motion that the markets should be moved back to the CBD.

"I hope I get support because the store holders, business people and residents just want certainty," Cr Hansen said.

"It's time the council makes a decision."

Cr Hansen said having the markets in the CBD brought ambience to the markets and gave the local business people confidence.

"I don't think it's working where it is - for many reasons and safety being one of them," he said.

"I'm fairly confident that the motion will be passed."

Cr Hansen will also table a petition today against regulated parking.

"There is an issue with Burrum River bridge that I will address but I don't want to give too much away yet."
