Demons poor run puts coach Neeld under pressure

MELBOURNE coach Mark Neeld faces the prospect of leading his charges into battle for possibly the last time when the Demons take on ladder leaders Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday.

Neeld has an appointment with the club's board on Monday morning to discuss Melbourne's terrible start to the season that has brought just one win, against bottom side GWS in round four.

Since he took over at the start of the 2012 season, the Demons have won just five games.

Speculation has been growing weekly that Neeld faces the axe sooner rather than later, but yesterday he said he had not been affected by the external pressure.

"I'm not letting it. I'm pretty clear on what my job is - to coach the Melbourne Football Club - and that is what I am doing," he said.

Neeld said everyone at the club realised the team's predicament.

"We've all got - players, board, administrators, coaches - a clear understanding of where we're at, where we want to get to and how we're going to get there," he said.

"We're really disappointed - we're a little bit behind where we thought we were going to be at this stage."
