M'boro youngsters recognised with youth achievement awards
THE outstanding achievements of the youth of Maryborough were recognised at the Maryborough Neighbourhood Centre's Youth Achievement Awards last Thursday night.
The annual ceremony aims to recognise young people who have set goals and achieved them through determination.
Angela O'Connell was recognised for her achievements in the arts.
She said she was honoured to receive the award.
"I put a lot of work into my dancing and I love that the Maryborough Neighbourhood centre has these awards to recognise young people," she said.
Every year, the Maryborough Neighbourhood Centre seeks to find young achievers in all areas from sporting to community and cultural involvement.
Maryborough Neighbourhood Centre manager Gay Cayabyab said the youth deserved a fantastic ceremony.
"Every year the centre gets a lot of encouragement from businesses, organisations and members of the community to continue and keep on hosting and organising these youth awards," she said.
"We are very proud of this youth program and very dedicated to continue on and promise to always implement a better and bigger celebration of the youth awards."
Mayor Gerard O'Connell said young people played an important role in the community.
"It's easily demonstrated and well accepted that youth are the pinnacle and epicentre of our community," he said.
"We're celebrating their achievements and they've achieved so much."
Next year the awards will recognise youth right across the Fraser Coast.
