Diamonds shine for Incas team

IT WAS a new round of games but there nothing new about the outcome.

Incas Cobalt are still unbeaten after four rounds in the Maryborough Softball Association senior women’s competition after beating Incas Silver 8-5.

Jai Sandow gloved a catch in the win for Incas Cobalt while Kim Daley (two), Leeanne Murtagh and Suzanne Richardson were in catching form for Incas Silver.

In the other game of the round, two home runs from Shaun Mitchell helped power Aztecs Arrows to a 17-2 win against Aztecs Apaches.

Cayce Arthur also took a catch for Aztecs Arrows while Deborah Creighton grabbed one for Aztecs Apaches.

Defending premiers, Sparx, had the bye.

There was also plenty of action in round five of the Hervey Bay Softball Association senior competitions.

In the women’s division, another strong performance from Rockets pitcher Deb Bonnel helped secure her team a fifth consecutive win, an impressive 10-0 demolition of Incas.

Katie Thorburn, Sarah James and Barb Hard all took catches for Incas.

Jess Cochrane’s pitching was also the key in Angels 14-9 win against a Goolahs team in which Janine O’Toole starred.

In the men’s competition, pitchers Jono Thomas (Pirates) and Dan Becker (Terrors) kept things really tight when their teams clashed and it was only a run from Liam Mackay that gave Pirates a 1-0 win.

Angels beat Demons 5-0 in the other game of the round.
