Dirt road may be closed to through traffic in Bauple

THE Fraser Coast Regional Council may close an unsealed road in Bauple to stop through traffic.

At Wednesday's council meeting, Cr Phil Truscott asked for a report on temporarily placing barriers in MacKellar St in Bauple to stop through traffic.

"That would mean that only local people could use it," he said.

"Residents have complained that vehicles, especially large four-wheel drives, are using the street, and creating a dust problem."

MacKellar St is the only unsealed road in Bauple.

Cr Truscott said blocking the road was the quickest way to stop dust problems.

"It's not a better way to do it - the best way is to seal it," he said.

"At this stage a quick way to do it and a relatively cheap way to do it would be to stop through traffic."

Cr Truscott said the main cause of the dust problems was tourists having a 'sticky beak.'

"Obviously, eventually the intention would be to seal it," he said.

"This is a quick fix which is a happy medium for the residents."

A report on the proposal will be presented to a future council meeting.

This Saturday is the annual Bauple Nut Festival.
