Comment: Dog act not acceptable by owners

Comment: WE call dogs man's best friend but sometimes these loyal animals don't get treated like friends.

Quite often I see people trying to re-home not only dogs but cats and other pets on Facebook. Some of these pets have been in these families for years.

It seems that counts for nothing.

When it's no longer convenient, these animals - one was a geriatric cat that had only known one home in its lifetime - are put up on Facebook and given away to someone the owner has sometimes never met before.

I see dogs tied up in the back of ute trays, probably burning their feet off while the sun beats down.

Then on Saturday I was asked by a Maryborough woman to do a story about two dogs she says have been locked inside a car in her street for at least the past three days.

So on Saturday I went for a drive and sure enough, there they were.

Sure, the windows were partially wound down but as the RSPCA's website says, that will not stop the car from reaching dangerous temperatures.

It is also illegal to leave the windows down on an unattended car for obvious reasons.

I'm sure there is an explanation as to why the owners of these pets felt they had to do this.

If they want to contact me to share their side of the story, they can give me a call on 4120 1053.

But either way - find another solution because this isn't it.
