A COAST police officer has dislocated his shoulder during an arrest overnight.

Sunshine Coast police central patrol officer Inspector Mike Miley said the officer had been called to a disturbance at Macquarie Court in Nambour about 9pm Saturday.

Insp Miley said the officer was searching a man in the back of a police car when the incident occurred.

"Whilst arresting a male person he struggled violently and dislocated the of a male officer," Insp Miley said.

He said the officer's injury occurred when he fell backwards onto the road.

The man fled the scene.

Police crews and dog squad officers were called in to search for him but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Insp Miley said police wanted to speak with Josiah Lim, 26, in relation to the incident.

The officer was treated at hospital.
