Dogs show their ability at agility and jumping trials

A DISPLAY of control, training and athletic ability by dogs of all breeds and sizes was on show at the Agility and Jumping Trial in Hervey Bay at the weekend.

Top dogs travelled from as far afield as Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast to compete.

Hervey Bay Dog Agility and Obedience Club spokeswoman Glennys McLaughlin hailed the event as a great success.

"We had a wonderful weekend with many laughs at runs that went wrong and much smiling and applauding at correct runs, with many qualifications gained," she said.

"The visitors were very impressed with the easy-going atmosphere of the trial and were also very impressed with the beauty of our area, with a number staying on to holiday for a few days.

"All in all, it was a very successful trial which seemed to entertain a large number of spectators as well as being thoroughly enjoyed by the competitors."

Experience levels ranged from novice to excellent, all the way up to the prestigious masters.

The Hervey Bay Dog Obedience and Agility Club host agility training on Monday nights and Obedience on Thursday nights.

Beginner obedience classes and other puppy preschool socialisation classes are held on Sundays.
