Driver crashes into pole

POLICE were yesterday on the trail of a motorist who did a runner after crashing his car into a power pole at Maryborough.

The man, believed to be aged in his 20s, escaped out of the front passenger side of the black sedan after crashing at the corner of Alice and Crimmens streets about 11am.

Witnesses reported seeing the man hop into a white vehicle, which was driven away from the scene before police arrived.

The black car sported an Australian flag protruding from a window, as well as a shattered back windscreen and a dented side panel.

A syringe could be clearly seen sitting on the front dash area of the car. The driver also left behind a backpack.

Police were yesterday trying to track down the driver of the crashed car, who is also wanted for questioning in relation to a number of burglaries in the Gladstone region.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers, 1800 333 000.
