Drug-affected driver, 44, fined
A DRIVER whose car was seen travelling erratically through the streets of Pialba was later found to have drugs in his bloodstream.
Bevan John Argent faced Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this week for an offence which occurred in November last year.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Nicole Kunkel said when police pulled over Argent's Hyundai Excel, he had slurred speech, glassy eyes and dilated pupils.
But he returned a negative breath-test result, which proved he had not been drinking, so he was taken to the Hervey Bay Hospital for a blood test.
The results showed Argent had traces of cannabis and other drugs in his system, Snr Const Kunkel said.
She told the court Argent's traffic history featured two prior convictions for driving under the influence of drugs.
Argent told the court he had been taking a daily dose of prescribed morphine at the time.
He also wanted to know why the police had taken so long to charge him for the offence.
The 44-year-old pleaded guilty to driving while a relevant drug was present in his system.
He was fined $500 by Magistrate Tom Killeen and disqualified from driving for nine months.
