Drug habit led to stealing spree and then jail time
A MAN has been sentenced to jail after embarking on a stealing spree to fund his drug habit.
Frankie Douglas Muir, 32, was intercepted by police while driving along Booral Rd in Hervey Bay on July 26.
Hervey Bay Magistrates Court heard the car he was driving had been stolen from a property at Yarraman.
Muir was also found to have been driving while unlicensed.
The court heard the Hervey Bay man had also stolen other items from the property, including jewellery and a laptop.
In addition, Muir had also stolen items from businesses in Brisbane and Coopers Plains.
The court heard Muir had made his way into back rooms in both businesses and had stolen wallets, mobile phones, car keys and credit cards from staff.
These items were later found in a backpack inside the stolen car.
The court heard Muir had started smoking marijuana at 12 and had later moved on to other drugs, such as speed and heroin.
Muir was given several concurrent jail sentences of up to 16 months for his crimes and a parole date was set down for November 28.
He was also fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for two years for the unlicensed driving charge.
