Eade not a scapegoat, says Gold Coast Suns boss

AFL: Gold Coast CEO Mark Evans has declared coach Rodney Eade would not be made a scapegoat for the Suns' dismal start to the year saying a collective response was required from the entire club.

There has already been speculation the axe was about to fall on Eade and the round 4 clash with Carlton could seal his fate.

Evans has been furious with what he has witnessed in the opening two weeks but said any decisions made at round 2 could only be considered knee-jerk.

He also admitted he needed more time in the job to truly assess what was going wrong.

However, he stressed the performances to date have been unacceptable.

"No one should accept that," he said.

"What we need is a collective response.

"There will be no scapegoats, no excuses, just a commitment to raise the intensity at the contest.

"How does that happen, from what I have seen in football, our coaching group, our leadership need to raise the standards."

Evans said rather than put Eade on notice, he had spoken to the coach on Monday morning and asked what assistance he needed to turn things around.

The Suns already bolstered their coaching panel in the off-season with the appointment of Christian Stagliano in a coaching innovation role to assist Eade educate the players and his coaching panel.
