Eels to axe players Stuart thinks are 'not up to scratch'

EELS CEO Ken Edwards has asked for patience in an open letter to fans, as the club prepares for a cleanout of players.

Reports suggest up to 12 players might not be in the blue and gold next year, including co-captain Reni Maitua and Queensland representative Willie Tonga.

"There have been a lot of people who have lost their jobs at the Eels without the playing group ever being held accountable," Edwards wrote.

Eels coach Ricky Stuart, who has stated many of his players are not up to NRL standard, has informed those players who will not be required next year.
