Elderly Hervey Bay fisherman dies at sea

AN ELDERLY Hervey Bay fisherman has died at sea after suffering a heart attack off the coast of Yeppoon.

Coast Guard Flotilla Commander Arthur Hunt said the 84-year-old man and his two sons were near Barren Island, several kms east of Great Keppel Island, on Saturday morning when he collapsed.

"His sons performed CPR but were unable to revive him," he said.

"It took them almost an hour to get within phone range."

Mr Hunt said the 84-year-old had a previous heart condition.
