Harvey Norman set for Maryborough
NATIONAL super store Harvey Norman is coming to Maryborough.
Franchisees John Marron and Jason Grieve said the company was set to take over the Clive Peeters computer and electrical store in Bazaar Street, across from Maryborough Plaza, on Monday.
“We're expecting the computer system will be installed on Friday, be up and running on Sunday and we'll be trading as Harvey Norman on Monday,” Mr Grieve said. “We can't take orders until then.”
Mr Marron, franchisee for the new Harvey Norman computer section, said all Clive Peeters staff (11 locals) would continue their employment including electrical section franchisee Mr Grieve who has been with the store since it opened as Home Appliance Centre 15 years ago. After a stint as Maryborough Betta Electrical, Clive Peeters took over in 2007 but ran into financial trouble.
“Staff, and Maryborough, are very excited,” Mr Grieve said. “Anyone we've spoken to so far has said ‘great stuff!'
“We'll have the best and biggest range Maryborough has seen. It'll be massive compared to what we've normally had.”
The new store will stock computers, software, telephones and Optus pre-paid plans, GPS systems and digital SLR cameras as well as washing machines, dryers, fridges, microwaves, air-conditioners and more. The store will not have furniture.
Mr Grieve and Mr Marron were confident their application for Sunday trading would be granted by the Fraser Coast Regional Council.
“We're just waiting on word in early October.”
