Ending violence must be priority

ONE OF Queensland’s leading experts in the prevention of domestic violence yesterday encouraged Fraser Coast residents to get behind White Ribbon Day.

Brian Sullivan, a lecturer from the University of Queensland, was the guest speaker at a White Ribbon Day luncheon at the Carriers Arms Hotel said today’s event was about “men standing up for the elimination of violence against women and children”.

“Communities need to have a collaborative response to domestic violence. Every agency – whether it be government or non-government – should co-operate on shared procedures to prioritise women and children’s safety.”

White ribbons can be bought from Lifeline in Maryborough or Hervey Bay today.
