Esplanade works continue, motorists urged to avoid stretch

ASPHALT resurfacing is taking place on The Esplanade between Tavistock and Zephyr streets which is expected to take another two weeks, weather permitting.

Sections of the Esplanade will be closed for up to two-days at a time during the works as the old asphalt is removed and the new surface laid to match in with the new kerb and channel.

"The work is part of regular maintenance," Division 9 Councillor Stuart Taylor said.

"As the broken kerb and channel is replaced the asphalt surface has to be reprofiled to fit," he said.

"The new overlay also extends the life of the pavement by ensuring water cannot get into the subbase to cause potholes."

Motorists are requested to observe the roadwork signs and traffic control.

Detours are in place around the project sites.

Council urges residents to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
