Everard returns from leave following fake emails drama

IT IS believed embattled Fraser Coast councillor Darren Everard has returned to work after five weeks off following the fabrication of four emails.

In November Cr Everard confessed to fabricating emails and sending them from his council email address, pretending to be members of the Fraser Coast community.

While he did not answer the Chronicle's calls yesterday, it is understood he returned to work before Christmas.

But Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said he had not received any official notice that Cr Everard had returned.

"He had some sick leave but that's about all (I know)," he said.

"With the Local Government elections looming in March I think Darren, the division, all candidates and the community… would like some resolution."

The Department of Local Government is still investigating the situation but a spokeswoman said it would "not provide comment on the progress of complaints matters".

"There is no specific timeline for a decision other than matters must be dealt with as promptly as possible."
