Ex-Labor MP Tim Mulherin turns lobbyist for $1.98b project

THE Labor Party's immediate past state deputy leader and Mackay MP has met with former colleagues on behalf of a controversial $1.98 billion far north Queensland agricultural development, just months after leaving Parliament.

Former Labor agriculture spokesman Tim Mulherin helped shape the current government's policy on the Integrated Food and Energy Developments project near Georgetown, in the Etheridge Shire, while in opposition.

According to Agriculture Minister Bill Byrne's ministerial diary, Mr Mulherin, who served as Labor's agriculture spokesman during its time in opposition post-2012, met with the minister on March 26 to discuss the IFED project.

In a joint statement in response to Fairfax Media's questions, spokespeople from State Development Minister Anthony Lynham's and Mr Byrne's offices said Palaszczuk government ministers met with many people and were "readily accessible".

"It's a hallmark of this government that we are accessible - and, unlike the former LNP Government, not on a pay-per-view basis," they said.
