Expect heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding: bureau

A SEVERE weather warning for heavy rain in the Wide Bay Burnett has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology.

"Heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, is expected to develop during Thursday through the Wide Bay and Burnett," BoM said.

Hervey Bay and Maryborough may be affected by heavy rainfall during the afternoon and evening with 24-hour totals of 50mm to 150mm likely.

Some isolated heavier falls were also expected, BoM said.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has advised people to:

  • Avoid driving, walking or riding through floodwaters
  • Keep clear of creeks and storm drains
  • For emergency assistance phone the SES on 132 500
