Building work on new ramp may start as soon as 2014: MP

MEMBER for Maryborough Anne Maddern has indicated that construction on the new ramp could begin as soon as 2014.

"It is my understanding that design work for the boat ramp is in the course of being carried out and the necessary State Government processes to allow for the construction of the boat ramp are in the course of preparation," Ms Maddern said.

"I hope that work will commence sometime in 2014."

She said she believed that most of the Burrum community was in favour of the ramp at the proposed location.

"The community have over many years been lobbying for a new boat ramp for Burrum Heads and I have personally had a large number of people advise me of their wish," Ms Maddern said.

"The need for a new boat ramp stems from the fact that the existing boat ramps are known to be quite dangerous, particularly for older members of the community to use, and parking arrangements for boats and trailers are very limited.

"Many people, other than those that live in this community, also use the boat ramps."

The Fraser Coast Regional Council has previously announced a preliminary estimate of the new ramp at $5.7 million. That includes $2.5million for the land-based components, which the council is responsible for.
