Facebook community shows little support for spooks in Bay
OUR Facebook community has slammed Halloween celebrations on the Fraser Coast with very little support for the spooky event.
Our online poll has revealed 46% of respondents think it is un-Australian and only 13% say yes to the celebration.
There was a little more support for the kids with 23% saying it's all a bit of fun for the kids.
On Facebook most who responded said a big 'NO' to the event.
WHAT YOU SAID ON FACEBOOK
Michelle Smith: No. A few years ago I wasn't at home when the kids were trick or treating so they egged my house because they couldn't get any lollies.
Warren Bates: Why not? Someone stuffed up Guy Fawkes night. Let the kids have fun.
Jason Weston: No the last thing we need is to promote kids knocking on strangers doors begging for lollies while we have a childhood obesity epidemic. The shops only promote it because it e courages more consumerism.
Kamala Dunn: yes if people want to
Denise Hatch: no I'm flat out paying bills let alone having to buy a ton of lollies, I never let my children do it, it's just the shops wanting to make more money, and reading the comments nobody really knows what it is about and where it started ( which to my understanding it was England) but each to their own.
Anne Hare: Absolutely not - it's an American institution. And may I take this opportunity to advise parents accompanying children on the 31st October that if the porch light is OFF, that means the inhabitants do NOT wish to participate. Apparently that is the way it works in the USA.
Natasha Marie: Actually it's more of a Celtic tradition, it doesn't harm anyone, kids enjoy dressing up...as long as everyone is responsible, why not?????
