Family First to stand for all Qld seats at election

FAMILY First will contest every seat in Queensland at the Federal Election.

The party also accused Prime Minister Kevin Rudd of attempting to create a last-minute referendum on gay marriage, a plot they described as ridiculous.

The party's lead senate candidate Aidan McLindon said despite the weak economy and the crippling problems in the agricultural, farming and manufacturing sectors, Mr Rudd had made a last-minute attempted to create a referendum on gay marriage.

"Well, bring it on - Family First is the only major party that has no problem in stating its opposition to such a ridiculous proposition," he said.

"It is a position that the silent majority are happy to support and it is reflected in the strong team of small business operators, community volunteers, tradies, stay-at-home mums and white-collar professionals who have put their hands up to run for Family First."

Mr Rudd used the Leaders' Debate on Sunday night to commit to bringing a bill on same sex marriage before parliament if re-elected.
