DISAPPEARED: Marilyn Wallman went missing from Eimeo in 1972.

Pain still raw on 42nd anniversary of Marilyn's disappearance

FORTY-TWO years after Marilyn Wallman disappeared, the pain of losing a beloved daughter and sister is still fresh for her devastated family.

On this day in 1972 14-year-old Marilyn was riding her bike along an Eimeo Rd on her way to school.

Her brother Rex Wallman remembers seeing her abandoned bike on the side of the road and hearing screams from a nearby cane paddock.

It's the last memory he has of his sister.

Mr Wallman said his family was feeling "flat" after a stressful week of digging in a North Mackay backyard last month failed to provide any answers about the 42-year-old mystery.

"The police are progressing through Crime Stoppers leads over the last few months," Mr Wallman said.

"They were obviously coming in fast when the dig was on.

"They've interviewed a few people in relation to some of the Crime Stoppers leads.

"We're positive because we have the police working on it full-time, and we're getting in constant contact with them and keeping informed on what they're doing… but to sum it up we're a little bit flat."

He said police were still waiting for DNA results from fragments of a skull found in 1974, which were sent to New Zealand earlier this year for testing. The skull fragments were not found at the Bassett St property recently excavated.

Mr Wallman said his parents and siblings would mark this sad anniversary in their family history in different ways today.

"We do our own thing… but we have a church service for Marilyn, which is happening in a week or so, and that's something we do every year for her.

"We regularly get together as a family, for a meal or something, at least once a fortnight. Marilyn is always a part of that."

He urged anyone with any information about Marilyn's disappearance to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
