Fatigue a 'major factor' in fatal crash and inferno: police

FATIGUE was the most likely cause of a horrific fatal accident at Glenwood on Sunday night, police investigations have found.

Senior Constable Ron Van Der Steen said while witnesses were still being interviewed, it had been determined that fatigue had been a "major factor" in the accident.

A four-wheel drive, driven by the Brisbane man who was killed, collided with a B-double carrying highly volatile fertiliser at 6.40pm.

Police were still attempting to notify all the 55-year-old man's family on Wednesday.

Snr Const Van Der Steen said the 62-year-old truck driver from Melbourne was still recovering in hospital with burns to 15-20% of his body.

The truckie managed to jump free from the burning cabin before the flames took over.

The flames hindered the efforts of emergency crews.

Snr Const Van Der Steen said initial reports that there was a passenger in the truck were untrue.

"There were no passengers in either vehicle," he said.
