SKIPPER Dean Jefferys from the marine conservation yacht Migaloo 2 is holding a special film and information night about whales and dolphins at the Hervey Bay Community Centre on Friday, September 6, from 6-9pm.

Mr Jefferys will give talks and show a number of films focused around marine conservation issues.

"These films include Sea Shepherd activities, some footage from this year's trip and a 20-minute documentary made during last year's sailing journey along the east coast of Queeensland in Migaloo 2," he said.

"The film explores and exposes many of the issues effecting the marine environment such as shark nets, plastic, coal and coal seam gas port expansions, port dredging and dumping, shark finning, dolphin killing and capture, plus it shows many great whale connections along the way."

Mr Jefferys said the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove, about Flipper trainer Ric O'Barrys efforts to stop the Japanese killing dolphins, would be shown.

Admission is $10.
