Fine images distract from depression
KATRINA Dollin has found capturing the essence of the Fraser Coast distracts from the depression she has struggled with for more than 10 years.
Born and bred in Maryborough, Katrina said she always had a love for the art.
"I love escaping from reality - taking photos of the river, boats, bird life, sunsets and it's just stunning when the jacarandas are in full bloom," she said.
"Maryborough is full of history. I find it all very interesting and it's amazing what you capture."
Katrina has spina bifida, but it was her depression that was bringing her down.
"It was the request to photograph a friend's backyard wedding that had me pull out the old Nikon," she said.
"I started putting my images on social media and was told I have an eye for photography."
It was this unique perspective that Katrina started posting into the Maryborough Community Facebook competition.
"I have had lots of positive feedback from complete strangers," she said.
"This feedback has got me buzzing. It is a passion and I love it."
Next on Katrina's list is looking for people interested in portraits.
"I would love to try my hand at doing portraits," she said.
"I am also thinking about entering into the Fraser Coast Show."
