Urn blamed for evacuation at Toowoomba school

UPDATE: Firefighters say an urn caused smoke which led to schoolchildren being barred from entering their school this morning.

Wellcamp State School was evacuated about 8.20am today after reports of smoke.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said the urn was causing the smell.

The incident has been dealt with by firefighters and classes are resuming as normal.

EARLIER: A school has been evacuated as emergency services investigate a strong smell of smoke in a building.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are investigating the cause of smoke at Wellcamp State School.

Students and staff have been evacuated as crews work to determine the cause of the smell.

There are no reports of a fire at this stage.
