Diesel spill in Maryborough

FIREFIGHTERS had to move quickly yesterday when a delivery truck mounted a gutter in Maryborough’s CBD and started leaking 80 litres of fuel on to the road.

Station officer Shane Charman said the truck was leaving the Woolworths car park at the corner of Adelaide and Sussex streets when the fuel tank was damaged at about 8.30am.

“He drove off and left a slippery mark for quite some distance along Sussex Street,” he said.

Mr Charman said officers worked quickly to mop up the mess to avoid a car accident.

“There was a bit of chaos. If it had of been left there could have potentially been an accident.”

He said a bulk supply of absorbent material was used to soak up the fuel.
