Firefighters train at theatre

A DOZEN firefighters kitted up in harnesses were hoisted into the rafters of the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough yesterday but there was not a flame in sight.

The firefighters from Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Bundaberg used the theatre to under-take training in vertical rescue.

Regional technical rescue co-ordinator Bruce Shelton travelled to Maryborough from Maroochydore to lead the workshop.

He conducts training for firefighters across Queensland.

Maryborough senior firefighter Les Francis was among the participants.

“This is a workshop for technical rescue operators – we do confined space, vertical and swift water rescues,” he said.

“We do training every year and today we’re doing some vertical rescue work from the theatre platforms to practise for when we have to lower someone down from a height.”
