GETTING OUT: Fishing comp one of the best
IF YOU like to wet a line in our brilliant waterways then you would have heard of some of the great fishing competitions that are run each year on the Fraser Coast.
The VMR Hervey Bay Family Fishing Competition and the Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic are so well known, they bring people in from all over Queensland.
But there's another competition that's not so well known but still attracts competitors from up and down the east coast of Australia.
The Bay Auto Electrical Marine SIMRAD Hervey Bay Game Fishing Tournament has been running in the waters on both sides of Fraser Island for years.
This year the tournament runs from November 12 to 15 and the fish are definitely biting, so come along for some exciting fishing.
This year promises to be one of the best for a long time, with plenty of black marlin being spotted in the bay and some blue monsters off the east coast of Fraser.
This is a competition not limited to game fishing boats.
Many competitors bring their small trailer boats and fish the calmer waters on the west coast of Fraser.
The boats in the tournament are able to stay out all weekend with the club arranging a fuel barge and mothership moored off the island.
The mothership also provides hot food and a comfortable bed for the night if you are in one of the smaller boats.
