Police clock highway driver at 157kmh in speeding blitz

POLICE caught 64 speeding drivers in a five-day blitz from Curra to Howard - including speeds of more than 80kmh in 60kmh zones, and one driver clocked at 157kmh on the highway.

A police representative said the blitz involved officers from Tiaro and Howard stations from July 3 to 7 targeting the Fatal Five - speeding, drink and drug driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, driving tired and driving while distracted.

Other traffic offences included unlicensed driving, unregistered motor vehicles, provisional drivers failing to display P plates, an unaccompanied learner driver and crossing double white lines.

At least one vehicle was impounded because of traffic offences associated with the driver, and three P-platers lost their licences due to high speeds.
