Five rescued from boat after taking on water

FIVE people were rescued from the Great Sandy Straits after their boat began taking water on Monday night.

The Volunteer Marine Rescue and RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter were called about 10.15pm to find the boat which had sent out a distress call near River Heads.

Using night vision goggles CareFlight chopper pilot Brent Hall was able to help locate the boat.

When found, the boat and its passengers were towed to RiverHeads boat ramp.
