Fletcher aims to be best man
CLANCY Fallon is hoping Jarrod Fletcher’s booming right hand can deliver a knockout blow quickly tonight.
You see, Fletcher is going to be Fallon’s best man on the Gold Coast tomorrow and he wants his best mate to look the part at the wedding.
However, Hervey Bay’s Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Beijing Olympian, has a bit of work to do before he can shape up looking smart in a suit.
Fletcher will take on New Zealander Dion McNabney for the Pan Asian Boxing Association middleweight crown at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
The fight will be the 25-year-old Fletcher’s third since he joined the professional ranks (he’s won the first two convincingly) but this one will be the biggest to date.
McNabney is the current holder of the title after he beat stopped Iau Kamisak in the fourth round in Vanuatu last month.
Not surprisingly, Fletcher said he wouldn’t be taking the 34-year-old Kiwi lightly
“The bloke he beat is highly thought of and is regarded as being pretty handy – McNabney was only supposed to be just an opponent but he proved to be more than that,” the former Urangan State High School student, said.
“It will be tough against him but I’m up for it.”
As for keeping his good looks in shape for the wedding, Fletcher said he would be doing his best to do just that.
“I told Clancy I’d do the right thing by him,” he laughed.
“I’ll even only have a couple of beers after the fight if I win rather than celebrate as normal.
“I promised Clancy I’d look the part on his big day and I will.”
