Flood of negative comments for whale parade on Facebook

DISAPPOINTING and boring were some of the words the Chronicle's Facebook readers used to describe the Hervey Bay Whale Festival Illumination Parade.

The majority of the 43 comments on a post asking what people thought about Saturday's new-look event were negative with many wondering about the lack of fireworks and calling for a return to the old-format parade, which included floats along the Esplanade.

But some readers had constructive comments such as making it a bigger and better all-day event, providing more workshops for making massive lanterns and blocking off Charles St so cars could not park on both sides.

Another reader, who commented on the website, wondered how many people complaining actually attended the event because they had heard nothing but positive comments and could not believe they were able to watch the Black Sorrows in concert for free.
