Flynn, 6, has had his fair share of snake encounters
WHEN six-year-old Flynn Penna sees a snake, he knows he needs to freeze, be careful and tell his mum.
While some children his age are scared of the slithery reptiles, Flynn has stepped over a red belly, stood right next to a brown snake and there has even been a tree snake in his play room.
Taleese Penna and her family live at a new development that backs onto bushland at Wondunna, and while they haven't seen many in the past 12 months, they've had their fair share of snake encounters - about 26 in four years.
Taleese said one of the scariest encounters was six months after they moved into their new home.
"There was a snake (inside) between my toddler and I," Taleese said.
Taleese said luckily it was only a baby and she was able to cover it with a container until her father-in-law came to release it later that day.
When playing in the backyard, instead of being frightened during snake season, Taleese has taught her children from a young age to freeze and be careful.
"They're a part of nature (snakes) and we've told our kids from a young age that they need to be aware of snakes," Taleese said.
In the first four years living in their home Taleese said they have seen all sorts of snakes including browns, tree snakes and whip snake and a red belly.
Taleese was one of our reader's to share her comments after we reported three snakes weighing in at 20kgs each being taken from a grandmother's roof.
We asked our Facebook community what their biggest phobia was.
