Local stores targetted in spree

A DOZEN Fraser Coast businesses and several others in the Gympie and Bundaberg regions were allegedly targeted by a criminal in a spree that lasted four months.

Eric Carl Dutzmann will face Maryborough District Court on more than 25 charges relating to break-ins of businesses, homes and cars between November 2009 and February this year.

It appeared no business was safe while Dutzmann was in town: his alleged trail of offences led from Gympie to Urangan, west to Kilkivan and Childers and as far north as Bundaberg.

Among his alleged victims were Zemo’s Pets and Hobbies in Maryborough, Soul Pattinson Chemist at Bundaberg, Tiaro Tea and Coffee House, Curra Country Club, a Urangan 4WD hire business, Hervey Bay Timber and Joinery, Hervey Bay Roof Trusses and Byrne Bros Concrete.

Police allege Dutzmann stole various items from his victims, including cash, electrical goods, toys and prescription drugs.

He appeared in custody in Maryborough Magistrates Court where he was committed to stand trial for the offences.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Steve Lord tendered dozens of witness statements, photographs, CCTV footage and other exhibits during the committal proceedings.

Dutzmann did not enter pleas to any of the charges.

He did not apply for bail and will remain in prison until his trial.
