Fraser Coast cricket powerhouse awaits its T20 opponents
CRICKET: Arguably the best team in the Wide Bay, Maryborough powerhouse Past Grammars is just one win away from claiming yet another piece of silverware.
The long-time dominator of local competitions, Past Grammars won both of its Twenty20 games to earn direct qualification in the Fraser Coast A-grade grand final.
A seven-wicket thrashing of Hervey Bay's defending champions Bushrangers was followed by a tight, six-run win against Australs, highlighted by an unbeaten century by opener Nick Bennetts.
It was the only A-grade team to win both of its games in the rain-shortened competition. Originally scheduled for six rounds, two weekends - the equivalent four games - were washed out before Christmas.
Bushrangers qualified for the semi final after its win against Cavaliers, while every ball counted for Australs as they sneaked into finals on run rate. While Cavaliers beat Australs on Saturday, two early season forfeits counted against the Hervey Bay team.
Bushrangers face Australs in the semi final at noon, before the winner faces Past Grammars at 3pm. Both games will be at Maryborough.
