The Fraser Coast gears up for a weekend of festivals
IT'S THE weekend the Fraser Coast has been waiting for; serving up delicious food, fine wine and cold beers shared between two exciting festivals.
The Relish Food and Wine Festival will be kicking off the weekend on Saturday, June 6 at Portside Maryborough, where local resturants, cafes and leading local chefs will showcase some of the region's best fresh food, as well as award-winning wines, craft beers and gormet food.
The location for Relish; Maryborough's Portside precint, was chosen to host the festival because it incorporates Queens Park, heritage streetscapes, the Mary River and surrounding parklands, and creates a symbolic backdrop for celebrating regional food and wine.
Fraser Coast Councillor for events, sport, recreation and open spaces Darren Everard said the Relish festival was becomming more recognised every year throughout South East Queensland, and was well on its way to becomming a signature food and wine festival in the region.
"Held in conjunction with our quirky World's Greatest PubFest on the Sunday it offers two days of fantastic food, wine, culture and fun creating a major incentive to visit the region,'' Cr Everard said.
"The weekend provides the total foodie festival experience, from seasonal produce and local seafood, wine and cheese tastings and beer and food matching sessions.
"Add to that event sessions, cooking and coffee demonstrations from innovative chefs, wine masterclasses, cheese making demonstrations, live music, kids entertainment and more - visitors are sure to savour the moment."
Relish will be held on Saturday, 6 June from 11am - 6pm followed on Sunday, 7 June by the World's Greatest PubFest in central Maryborough and various outlying hotels.
Tickets for Relish are now on sale and can be pre-purchased online for just $12, or for $15 at the gate.
Children under 18 are free when accompanied by a paying adult, and special event sessions are extra.
